What is hallucination?

Hallucinations are sensory impressions that occur without any external stimulation.

Auditory hallucinations are the most common hallucinations experienced by people with schizophrenia and may include hearing familiar or unfamiliar voices that are distinct from the person's own thoughts. In particular, a person with schizophrenia may hear two or more voices conversing or voices that hold a running commentary on the person’s thoughts or behaviors.

Visual hallucinations are also common, but hallucinations of touch, smell, and taste are not as common.
