What is the relation between substance abuse and schizophrenia?
Drug abuse is common among the patients who have schizophrenia. (Keep in mind that it is not a must to have symptom for schizophrenia). Tobacco consumption represents 85-90% of the schizophrenic population. Consuming drugs like cocaine, LSD, amphetamine may make the symptoms more severe. On the other hand tobacco consumption may interact with the pharmaceutical therapies.
